Busbud Wins $25K “Best Investment” Prize at 2014 HBS New Venture Competition!

Busbud is pleased to announce that it was named the winner of the $25K “Best Investment” prize at the World final of the 2014 HBS Alumni New Venture Competition yesterday in Boston!

Busbud beat out 13 other world finalist startups to win the prize, which was voted by a panel of investors. Busbud had been selected in March as a region finalist for Canada to participate in the final. In addition to the prize money, the company will also have the opportunity to attend the Rock 100 Entrepreneurship Summit in Boston on April 29-30th.

Busbud Selected in Top 20 Innovative Companies in Canada by CIX

Busbud is pleased to announce that is has been named in the Top 20 hottest technology companies in Canada by the CIX.

The CIX Top 20 is an elite index of the most forward-looking companies in the Canadian innovation ecosystem, and connects the key players driving technology-based business both in Canada and beyond.

An expert panel of innovation leaders have selected the 20 technology companies from across Canada to be featured in a live showcase at CIX 2013, taking place November 21, 2013 at MaRS Discovery District in Toronto.

Busbud is happy to join fellow Montreal-based startups Breather, Plotly and Fabric Engine in this year’s Top 20.

Busbud joins Top 20 alums from Quebec such as Frank & Oak, Beyond The RackAcquisio, CoveoTungle and Wajam.

Busbud Selected For 48 Hours In the Valley

Busbud is very excited to announce that it has been selected to participate in the 48 Hours in the Valley program in Silicon Valley!

48hrs in the Valley is the C100‘s flagship mentorship program put on in conjunction with the Canadian Consulate of San Francisco and Palo Alto.

Twice a year, the C100 invites 20 of Canada’s most promising startups to the Silicon Valley for two days of mentorship, workshops, investor meetings, strategic partner visits and networking.

 

The program is scheduled for December 2-4, 2013

Busbud selected to attend Brazil-Canada 3.0

Busbud has been selected by Brazil’s Comitê Gestor da Internet (CGI) and the Canadian Digital Media Network, as one of ten companies representing Canada at the Brazil-Canada 3.0 conference from December 4th – 6th, 2013.

The program will include opportunities to meet with potential customers and investors from Brazil, as well as the ability to learn about the Brazilian market from companies with experience in country. The Canadian and Brazilian companies will also take part in a pitch-off competition on December 3rd, with OpenText sponsoring the winning companies attendance at the Canada 3.0 conference, taking place in Calgary May 26th – 28th, 2014.

“This is a great opportunity for Busbud to enter the Brazilian market” said Kevin Tuer, Managing Director of the Canadian Digital Media Network, “Brazil is the seventh largest domestic IT market in the world, and as the host of the upcoming World Cup and 2016 Olympics there will be even greater opportunities going forward.”

Ricardo Sordre, CEO of the Brazilian accelerator Project-1, added “Many large Brazilian companies are in need of technologies that are not available in country, and Canadian companies can help fill that need in the fast-growth, high demand Brazilian market.“

Brazil represents an exciting new market for Busbud. “We are thrilled to participate in the event and eager to make new connections in Brazil with investors and partners alike!”, said LP Maurice, CEO of Busbud.

6Harmonics, ESL Explorer, fSONA Networks, Linquet, Magnet Forensics, Turnstyle, PO-MO, Xomo Digital and Zighra are the other companies chosen out of 164 applicants by a panel consisting of Ricardo Sodre (Project 1), Kevin Tuer (CDMN) and Sid Paquette, the Director of OMERS Ventures. The diverse group comes from across the country, and includes the retail, wireless, security, education and tourism sectors. The companies selected are high growth SMEs, with average revenue of $1.3 million that is projected to increase markedly over the next year through international expansion.

Busbud Shortlisted for 2013 “Innovator of the Year” Prize by PwC

Busbud is happy to announce that is has been shortlisted for the 2013 Innovator of the Year by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) as part of the Vision 2 Reality Awards.

The Innovator of the Year Award acknowledges “the company that has best demonstrated the commercialization of an innovative technology solution. The innovation must be new, unique and a game changer—and customer acceptance must be demonstrated”.

Busbud joins an impressive list of 20 top Canadian startups, including awesome Montreal companies Frank & Oak, Wajam and PasswordBox.

All 20 startups are competing for “Up and Coming Companies” nominations and hope to take home the coveted “Innovator of the Year” prize.

In 2012, the Innovator of the Year prize was won by Wattpad, a Toronto-based company which has created the world’s largest community for readers and writers with 10 million unique users in 2012 who spend about 2.4 billion minutes per month on average with the service.

Winners will be announced in November 2013!

Busbud Wins 2nd Global Adventure Competition

Busbud is thrilled to report that it has been selected as a winner for the 2nd edition of the Global Adventure Competition! Busbud will represent Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces.

The competition is organized by the UK Trade and Investment Canada and supported by the C100. UK Trade and Investment Canada helps Canadian businesses launch their global adventures from the UK, and helps UK companies sell into Canada.

The Global Adventure Competition competition looks to introduce Canada’s most promising innovative technology companies to the UK’s vibrant tech community.

As part of the prize, the Busbud team will fly to the UK to meet potential business partners, receive advice and mentoring from international business specialists and network with investors, companies and incubators.

Busbud Selected for International Startup Festival 2013!

Busbud is pleased to announce it has been chosen to participate and pitch in the 2013 edition of the International Startup Festival!

Busbud was selected among over 200 submissions from 40 cities around the world. The 12 finalist startups hail from San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Waterloo, Dubai, England, Vietnam and India.

As one of the chosen startups, Busbud will have the chance to present their companies on stage to the festival audience. Presenting at the festival is a great opportunity for companies to gain international attention ranging from the media, investors, partners, clients and more!

The Festival will be held in Montreal July 10-13th, 2013! Tickets are still available here.

Busbud was selected as one of the “10 hottest startups in Montreal” and invited to pitch as last week’s Accelerate Montreal event hosted by the C100.

AccelerateMTL celebrates and showcases the technology entrepreneur community. It’s where the hottest technology companies in Montreal come together with leading Canadian and Silicon Valley investors and influencers to further accelerate the development of the Canadian start-up community.

The C100 is a non-profit, member-driven organization that supports Canadian technology entrepreneurship through mentorship, partnership and investment.

This holiday season, we’d love to hear your greatest bus travel story! What beautiful landscapes have you seen? Where have you been? Who were you with? By sharing your story, you’ll get a chance to win one of five (5) copies of travel blogger extraordinaire Jodi Ettenberg’s new book The Food Traveler’s Handbook.

Jodi Ettenberg was born in Montreal and has been eating her way around the world since April 200. She is also the founder of Legal Nomads, which chronicles worldwide travel and food adventures. Prior to founding Legal Nomads in 2008, Jodi worked several years as a corporate lawyer in New York City. You can also read more about her awesome travels in our Busbud Q&A series with Jodi!
